How do I make it work with Kali/Debian Linux? Installing WiFi drivers on a Kali Linux. Wicd to see if it recognize the wifi adapter. Apt-get install wicd. If you are using in virtual machine you need to get external Wi-Fi adapter, your built-in Wi-Fi adapter cannot be read by the guest OS, in your case the Kali Linux. Hello, can you give me some information so I can help you better. I like to know (with the device plugged in) the outcome of the following commands: uname -a lsusb lsmod Charles. Thanks...these are what i get. John@thinkcentre:~$ uname -a Linux thinkcentre 3.0.0-16-generic #29-Ubuntu SMP Tue Feb 14 12:49:42 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux john@thinkcentre:~$ lsusb Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 004 Device 002: ID 674e:4eae Bus 001 Device 003: ID 148f:5370 Ralink Technology, Corp. USB ID 148f:5370 stands for the Ralink RT5370 wireless adapter. For me that should run with the rt2800usb kernel module and should be loaded automatically into the kernel from version 3.0 and up. Look in: /lib/modules/3.0.0-16-generic/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/rt2x00 There should be a file called rt2800usb.ko Further more you should have the firmware-file in /lib/firmware It is called rt2870.bin Having those files present means there is no need to build the module yourself. Please report back about the above files and w'll see if there is need to build or not. If yes you need to install a few packages or it wont work. Ive tried to make it work but failed again.. It says device not found on ra0. In your dmesg output I found a mention for another driver RT5370STA. This seems to be the better driver for your adapter, allthough I had read other information. Well, my bad and I apologize. Being in a different timezone does not help either. Go to this website: Choose this driver: RT8070 /RT3070 /RT3370 /RT5370 /RT5372 USB Download to your folder. In the file manager right-click this bz2 file and choose Extract Here Next rename the extracted file to RT5370 Again: in the file manager right-click the renamed file and choose Extract Here Now you will have a new folder with a long name, starting with 2011_ OK, now open this folder and open folder os/linux, there will be a file config.mk Open it with leafpad. Please set 'HAS_WPA_SUPPLICANT=y' and 'HAS_NATIVE_WPA_SUPPLICANT_SUPPORT=y'. Check your changes carefully, save and close the text editor. Now you go to the terminal and do the following: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r). It Sounds like a big headache for nothing. Compact-wireless is deprecated since a long time, it is now called ' backport'. I guess you will have issues to use it with your kernel And check it out: The version you want to use are from 2010! Kali has backport installed with the latest drivers available and for sure also the oldest ones. What model is your wifi chipset? I have attached images for wifi model and 'no wireless' under Kali. Please suggest how can I install the driver for wifi. Regards, satishcse.
